Annemarie Geffert, Annemarie's Dairy : "We've been doing these things called "Take a Hike! Cleveland" that are really great. We did one through the PlayhouseSquare district. They tell you about the history and the architecture. They're free and very educational. We take our daughter. The tour guides are very entertaining."
In addition to PlayhouseSquare , tours also cover the Gateway District, the Warehouse District and Canal Basin Park. Each tour lasts approximately 1½ hours. Actors portray figures from Cleveland history such as John D. Rockefeller, Frances Payne Bolton, Garrett Morgan, Alan Freed and Daniel Burnham. Donations are encouraged to help fund future tours. The last tours of the 2010 season will be Saturday, Sept. 11, and Sunday, Sept. 12. For details, go to historicgateway.org or call 216-771-1994.
Terry Leu, Rolston Poultry : "I tell people to go see the USS Cod , the submarine over by Burke Lakefront Airport. They say it's the only submarine that ever captured a plane. You can walk through the submarine. It's a lot of fun. Take the kids."
