Only in Hollywood Tom Cruise's loss, Angelina Jolie's gain
Jul 10, 2010
LOS ANGELES – “You’d have to ask them. They’re in the pool,” Angelina Jolie said with a smile when asked what her kids think of her character in “Salt.” The kids – minus the twins, Vivienne and Knox, and Brad Pitt – were out frolicking in the pool of the Ritz Carlton in Cancun, Mexico, while their famous mom was fielding reporters’ questions in a meeting room.
If you ask us, we think Angelina may have a hit franchise in her slender hands. Director Phillip Noyce has made a taut action thriller and a gung-ho heroine in her, whose daring stunts kept us absorbed from start to finish when the film was screened at a cineplex in Cancun.
Playing a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt, who goes on the run after a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy, Angelina combines derring-do and her dramatic heft to create cinema’s newest engaging action icon. Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor head a strong supporting cast.
Tom Cruise’s loss is Angelina’s gain, since writer Kurt Wimmer originally made the “Salt” lead character to be played by a male actor. But Tom felt the project was too close to his own “Mission: Impossible” franchise. When the producers considered Angelina to play the spy on the run, the main character’s gender changed. But we imagined that it wasn’t a matter of altering the protagonist’s name from Edwin to Evelyn Salt.

One of the major cruise spots in the world is Europe. Amazing cities, historical artifacts of ancient cultures of long past, incredible scenery, all of these wait for the tourist at each port of call on European cruises.
European cruises leave from almost every main seaport in Europe. They often cover a specific region of Europe, although some companies do offer a whirlwind tour of the major sites right around the European coastline.
You can visit Norway, Sweden and Denmark in Northern Europe and enjoy the beautiful scenery and wonderful people. Here, you can delight in stunning scenery where mountains rise up like towers in every direction, and where waterfalls and glaciers are almost within touching distance. Scandinavia offers a wealth of old and stately cities to visit too. Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo, and Stockholm can all be parts of your European cruise, with Helsinki specifically being home to the Uspenski Cathedral, the most massive orthodox church in the western parts of Europe.
Ireland, France, the Low Countries and the British Isles are all apart of a European cruise. Scottish castles, the emerald green landscapes of Ireland and a visit to a French vineyard and chateaux are just some of the highlights of a cruise around Western Europe. Nelson’s Victory and Portsmouth in England are just some of the history filled ports that you might be able to tour.
If you decide you would like a warmer climate, then you should definitely consider a cruise to the Mediterranean. Croatia, Turkey, Spain, Greece, Italy, Portugal and the French Riviera all contain their own particular attractions. The coliseum of Rome, the birthplace of Salvador Dali, Monaco’s grandiose vista and the famous Turkish bazaars await all those who elect for a European cruise in the Mediterranean.|You can visit the famous vineyards on Spain, smell the lemon trees in Sicily or walk through the Acropolis in Greece.
There are many unique tours given in the Mediterranean region, as well. One can take pleasure in the delights of classical Greece and its marvelous islands, or experience the enchantment of island hopping from the western Mediterranean’s Balearic Islands to Cyprus out in the eastern parts.
